Message from DGE Rtn Upkar Singh Sethi :

Please refer to my earlier email last month with regard to our plan to develop certain district priorities on which projects with the clubs on district wide basis can be taken up within a particular time frame which can span over a day, week or even a month.

I have received a few responses, but more as to your desire and commitment to work, rather than conception and execution of a specific task. I had referred to projects should be under Rotary’s six areas of focus namely :

  • ·         Disease Prevention and Treatment.
  • ·         Water and Sanitation.
  • ·         Maternal and Child Health.
  • ·         Basic Education and Literacy.
  • ·         Economic and Community Development.
  • ·         Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution

To make things easier let me suggest a few projects which you may be able to pinpoint or choose. I am listing below herewith some sample/suggested projects for exploration at your end:

o   End Polio

o   Drug Addiction

o   Computer Literacy

o   Toilets for Girl Students

o   Free Legal Aid

o   Sanitation and Hygiene Projects

o   Sports Talent Promotion

o   Clean Drinking Water

o   Rain Water Harvesting

o   Blood Donation

o   Clean and Green Campaign

o   Energy Conservation

o   Environment Protection

o   Tree Plantation

o   Physically Challenged Care

o   Fitness & Nutrition Awareness

o   Avoidable Blindness

o   Spiritual Awareness

o   Save Girl Child

o   Girl Education

o   Mother & Child Care

o   Health Checkup in Schools

o   Thalassemia Awareness & Prevention

o   AIDs Awareness & Prevention

o   Supporting Hearing Impaired

o   Cancer Awareness

o   Breast Feeding Awareness

o   Personality Development

o   Population Control

o   Rural Development

o   Traffic and Road Safety

o   Concern for Senior Citizens

o   Disaster Management

o   Consumer Awareness

o   Prevention of Child Labour

o   Career Counseling

o   Vocational Placements ( Job Fairs,etc.)……….etc.

If you are interested to drive any of the above or another project which is close to your heart, I request you to please make a draft synopsis of the project, the intended benefit to the community, club resources required, the logistics to implement the same, etc to me latest by Wednesday, March 14, 2012 by email. After ascertaining the preliminaries you may be required to present the project for discussion and deliberations at the forthcoming DTTS 2012-13 – District Team Training Seminar on Sunday, March 18,2012 at Jalandhar. One session at the DTTS is being allocated for this only. The projects thus presented will become a suggested framework for the clubs to adopt during the year.

Finalised projects will be then showcased to the clubs at PETs/SETs in April 2012 and finally driver by you during the year.

Once adopted, it will be your duty and responsibility to :

  • Provide direction to Rotarians/Clubs interested in developing service projects.
  • Improve and support the Clubs Capacity to address the needs of that project.
  • Drive that project during the year for the entire district.
  • Monitor its results and effectiveness and take requisite steps to improve them.
  • Everything else required in connection with this project.
